Hi guys! I’m new here. I’ve been a Synology-fan since many many years but since they started to ignore homeconsumers a few years back, it’s time to move to another brand.
I’m a bit tempted by the DXP4800Plus. I’d like to hear some opinions here, if you’re a former Synology user I am even more tempted to hear what you have to say.
I’m using my Synology DS923+ for storing backups, photos and movies mostly (about 9-10TB in total). Running a few docker containers (Apache webserver+mariadb, Immich, SVN and a few others).
My main concern about migrating is the lack of SHR, the ability to combine different sized harddrives, but I guess I might be able to live with that.
But I’d love to hear what you have to say about this NAS model, especially if you’re an old Synology user.
I’d also be interesting in how well it runs a Windows 11 VM assuming you have enough RAM in the device.

You might want to consider TerraMaster if you want to run different sized drives in an array, as they offer that option.
The DXP4800 Plus is not bad, but you might want to consider the Pro now, if it fits your budget, as it has slightly better hardware. The biggest design flaw seems to be the CPU fan, as mine started ticking/clicking after a few months. Beyond that, the hardware is solid.
Not a Synology user, I moved from a DIY Open Media Vault box and the DXP4800 Plus is more power efficient than what I had and in many ways the OS is an upgrade. That said, it will be very limited compared to what you’re used to, if you expect to find native software for everything. Since you mention you run Docker, I think you’ll be fine, but Ugreen has some quirky implementation of some things, even their native apps, that actually makes going down the Docker router a better choice.
UGOS has come a long way over the past two years, but it still has some basic issues, like mixing languages in some parts of the UI and it might not behave as you expect coming from DSM.
Not tried to run Windows 11 on it, I have a feeling it would be a little big sluggish on the Plus with only one P-core, whereas the Pro has two P-cores.
The cool thing Ugreen has made is that their NAS finder app in Windows, actually opens up the NAS UI, so you can use it, rather than a web browser, which makes it feel quite cohesive.
Another option might also be the recently launched DXP4800 GT, as a lower cost option and the added benefit of you most likely being able to move your RAM over from your current NAS to it.
Another “fear” has appeared in terms of migration. The user community is obviously alot smaller, seeing the number of times this post has been read, compared to what I am used to in the syno-community. I guess that could be an important factor when you’re in the need of help with something…

Regardless, Ugreen is a new player in this space and the community is unlikely to be able to challenge that of Synology or QNAP that have been going for a couple of decades.
