i got my DXP4800 Plus 2 days back, i am using 3 WD red Plus HDD in RAID5. there is some strange cracking noise while HDD are syncing. seems linke ball bearing cracking noise. All HDD are healty, no issue or error in logs. does any one have what kind of issue is it. i tried the individual HDD and noise is coming from same bottom side.
Not at all strange, a lot of hard drives make that kind of noise. It’ll calm down once you’re done with the sync. Larger drives seem to make more noise than smaller drives. Also note that you did get 7200 rpm drives, they produce more noise than 5400 rpm drives, but also perform better.
at first its seems bit scary, i almost order to replace the HDD. while exploring other forum, understand what cause the noise. after given the VELCRO treatment, its seems ok. what i feel because ot metal chassis noise level was bit high. and placing some velcro to inner wall side its normal now.
