VPN access service setup

Hi,
Has anyone set up a VPN access service on any of these NAS through Docker?
I’ve tried a couple of variants of OpenVPN AS as well as WireGuard, but none of them give me access to a web interface afterwards to configure them.
I can’t set up a VPN on my router, it doesn’t have the option; and to use a different router would require me to get the PPPoE username and password from my ISP which is a bit hit and miss.
Anyone with an idiots guide? That would be appreciated.
TIA
David

Normally you end up on a different subnet when you use a VPN, so that could be why you can’t access the web interface of your NAS. One question, you’re not on a CGNAT? As in, you have a real public IP address? Without that, most VPN’s won’t work.

I run WireGuard on my router, so I can’t really help you, but in OpenVPN on my router, I have an option to access the LAN only, Internet only or Both, so check if there’s a similar setting somewhere that might prevent you from accessing your LAN.

I would also go in under the control panel, device connection and portal settings and turn off the HTTPS and HTTP redirects and use a different port for the web UI for your NAS, as this might be one of the issues and it’s an easy one to test.

Don’t have any other suggestions, but you could try Ugreen’s built-in remote access feature.

Most people are moving to tailscale now. With OpenVPN, you usually have to open ports on your router, But not with tailscale.

Here is a tutorial on setting it up. Once you enable subnet routing, you can access other devices on your network too - just like openvpn
